According to the supply chain news, TSMC is expected to win all orders for the Apple A13 chip in 2019, and the A13 chip will be used for the next generation of iPhone and iPad, which will further enhance TSMC’s leading position in the foundry market.
It is understood that since 2016, TSMC has been the exclusive supplier of Apple A series chips. In the first half of 2018, TSMC accounted for 56% of the global pure foundry market, and after receiving the exclusive supplier of Apple A13 chips next year, this number is expected to reach 60%.
TSMC’s 7nm process technology is also expected to receive orders from AMD, Huawei, MediaTek, NVIDIA and Qualcomm. Sources pointed out that the increase in orders for 7nm chips will make the market share of foundries reach a new high in 2019.
As GlobalFoundries put its 7nm plan on hold indefinitely, TSMC will have fewer competitors in the 7nm and below process areas. According to sources, TSMC is also ahead of Samsung in the 7nm foundry business because the Korean foundry only receives orders from Qualcomm and its own mobile division.
